I took this picture at the San Diego Wildlife Park in Escondido, California. If you have not been there, get there because, outside of the animal preserves in Africa, this is a wonderful place to see exotic animals in an environment approximating their natural habitats. The Wildlife park offers photo tours where you ride in a truck with a guide and you get very close to the animals. We did not get real close to this Cape Buffalo!
Hi,
A great photo, it’s like he turned around just for the camera, I love it. 🙂
He certainly noticed us. On my online gallery I titled this Power to Spare. What a magnificent animal – he had the visual impact of a powerful spring all coiled up. Thank you for your kind comment.

Great picture! Years ago (43 to be precise) in the Lake Manyara reserve in Tanganyika, in order to try to get a picture like yours I got out of the vehicle and approached a herd of them on foot, thinking that a stream between them and me would give me time to make it back. My picture was still terribly boring, as I did not own the necessary equipment. I got back safely only to be chewed out royally by the driver/guide! (It wasn’t the first time – I also got out of the car to photograph a lion up in a tree from directly underneath. That photo turned out better).
You were lucky to make it out of there alive. According to our guide, these strong animals kill a lot of humans every year. Where in the world are you these days?
